Abstract

Observations during a study of elephant impact on woody vegetation noted animals frequently stripped and chewed bark, particularly from Lannea species, but did not swallow it. Researchers query the possibility of elephants treating themselves for poisonous plants as these same species is used by people to treat cases of accidental food and beverage poisoning.
